Honda recalls additional 77,700 units for fuel pump replacement

In 2020, Honda Malaysia not only had to go through the tough times presented by COVID-19, but also announced that over 55,000 locally assembled units had to be recalled for the fuel pump replacement. This issue which has been a concern not just here in Malaysia, but also around the world, has elevated once again as they announce an additional 77,708 units to be recalled for the same issue.

According to a press release issued by Honda Malaysia, the most affected unit is the Honda City with over 36,000 units to be recalled, followed by the CR-V (over 19,000 units), Jazz (over 10,000 units), and Civic (over 8,000 units). Below is the detailed breakdown for each model ranging from 2018 until 2020.

Honda Malaysia also stated "As customer safety is Honda Malaysia’s top priority, the company will continue to uphold transparency and stringent controls for customers. The Company believes this product recall is necessary as a preventive measure to address the possibility of difficulty in starting the engine, loss of engine power or vehicle stalling."

"All affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product recall. Customers can also check if their vehicle is affected in the fuel pump recall via the HondaTouch application. Honda Malaysia urges all affected customers to contact any Honda authorised dealer to make an appointment upon receipt of the notification to replace the fuel pump, subject to parts availability."

To date, there have been no reported crashes or incidents regarding this particular issue, and just like the previous recall, all affected fuel pumps will be replaced free of charge.
