Honda Malaysia recalls more than 55k cars over fuel pump issue

By daryl, 18 June 2020

Honda Malaysia has issued a product recall involving 55,354 cars to replace a potentially faulty fuel pump as a precautionary measure. The recall involves 10 models in Honda Malaysia's CKD line-up manufactured between 2018 and 2019, with the 2019 Honda City making up 28 percent of the total cars being recalled.

In an official media statement, the Japanese carmaker clarified that the recall was meant to address the "possibility of loss of engine power or vehicle stalling" - common giveaways of a weak or dead fuel pump. However, it claims that no incidences of crashes or injuries caused by this issue have been reported in Malaysia at time of writing.

Replacement of the affected fuel pump is free of charge. Honda Malaysia has alerted all affected customers via notification letters and urges owners of all cars involved to get in touch with any authorised dealer to make an appointment as stock for the new fuel pumps will only be available in stages.

Honda owners can also log onto www.honda.com.my to check if their vehicles are affected. But there's no need to check if your car was produced this year as Honda Malaysia confirms that no vehicles made in 2020 are affected by this recall.
