Here’s a much more ‘affordable’ BMW S1000RR superbike

Remember the manic and racy new generation BMW S1000RR M Package superbike BMW Motorrad launched at the Malaysian MotoGP weekend last November? No doubt, it’s one superbike package to be reckoned with – it had carbon fibre wheels!

However, for much of the local superbiking masses, the M Package’s RM138,500 base price tag proved a little too steep. We also can’t help but suspect that the carbon wheels would be too dearly for daily street use – they’re not cheap to replace when you inevitably break them after hitting the many potholes littering our streets…

Effectively, the S1000RR M Package is, for all intents and purposes, a track bike with lights and plates attached to it, which isn’t great if you’re planning on doing more street riding than trackdays... Unless of course your name happens to be Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman.

Well, worry not, BMW Motorrad Malaysia heard your cries for a more ‘basic’ variant, bringing forth today’s announcement of the new BMW S1000RR ‘Standard Package’ offering being made available locally.

Aptly, the Standard variant makes do without much of the M Package’s bells and whistles, namely the carbon wheels, M Chassis Kit, lightweight battery, and the Sport Seat option.

Whilst the Standard variant also sees the deletion of a track-focused Pro Mode, there are still four ride modes – Road, Rain, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro – to choose from. And there’s still 207bhp and 113Nm from its manic 999cc in-line 4cyl screamer to bask in.

Best of all, the BMW S1000RR Standard Package is made much more accessible thanks to its RM116,500 base price tag – RM22,000 less than the M Package – and you’ll even have the choice between Racing Red or Hockenheim Silver Metallic paint schemes too.

By the way, said price includes BMW Motorrad Malaysia’s three-year warranty and three-year roadside assistance coverage added for peace of mind.

Fancy one? The new BMW S1000RR Standard Package is now open for orders at all authorised BMW Motorrad dealers nationwide. Yes, you’d best start saving all that Duit Raya now to get one…
