The KL mayor says that those who failed to pay their traffic compound before the September 1 deadline has all been blacklisted by the Road Transport Department (RTD, or JPJ). As explained by a New Straits Times report, mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said that this was decided by Federal Territories minister YB Khalid Samad.

“For now, we will press ahead with blacklisting the traffic offenders, seeing that DBKL’s offer of settling summonses at discounted rates have failed to encourage offenders to clear their summonses,” Nor Hisham said.

Previously, DBKL had offered a discount of 70 per cent for traffic summonses, but only managed to collect around RM2 million, a huge gap to the collection target of RM100 million.

More recently, four million traffic summonses have been issued up until August that amounts to RM1 billion, according to DBKL records.
