Fancy a ‘sportier’ Subaru Forester?
Think the fifth-gen Subaru Forester looked a tad too vanilla? Worry not as TC Subaru Sdn Bhd might have just the remedy for that qualm with this latest addition into the model’s line up, which also serves as the Forester's new range-topper.
Effectively, the new Subaru Forester GT Edition pictured here is a slightly hotter offshoot of the existing Forester 2.0i-S EyeSight variant. How ‘hot’ it got now in this form is for you to judge...
The GT Edition gains a sportier and rugged exterior thanks to a new front and rear bumper lip extension, side skirts plus a rear spoiler. Complementing that are GT Edition-specific 18-inch alloy wheels and leather seat design.
All in all, we just cannot help but suspect that this new range-topping GT Edition Forester might have been inspired by a certain rudely-named concept of the same badge shown recently at the 2020 Singapore Auto Show.
Apart from that, this new range-topper sees no changes from the 2.0i-S EyeSight variant it underpins, meaning you still get the same bells whistles that includes an 8-inch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-ready infotainment screen with 360-degree parking view, as well as the Subaru EyeSight autonomous driver aid amongst many.
Unfortunately, this is as hot as the fifth-gen Forester gets. What also remains unchanged is the somewhat 'vanilla' 2.0-litre ‘Boxer’ 4cyl heart with 156hp, CVT automatic transmission and symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) suite from the 2.0i-S EyeSight variant.
Open for purchase through authorised dealers now, the new Subaru Forester GT Edition commands a starting figure of RM177,788 – RM8,000 more than the 2.0i-S EyeSight variant that now slots below it.
