Fabio Quartararo wins emotional Italian GP

By sep, 31 May 2021

After a very emotional weekend due to the passing of Moto3 rider, Jason Dupasquier (CarXpert PruestelGP), it's hard to imagine the top MotoGP riders lining up on the grid to start the race at the track where the 19-year-old Swiss lost his life due to an incident that took place around 24 hours before.

The mood was gloomy, but everyone on the grid, riders and teams alike, knew that the young Moto3 rider was just chasing his dream and doing the thing he loved the most, which is why Fabio Quartararo's win in Mugello, Italy was dedicated to the fallen rider. The factory Yamaha rider had a blistering pace from the start, which he also capitalised from Francesco Bagnaia's early fall to take the lead.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider race his own race at the front, but things at the back were a bit more chaotic. The battle for P2 was fought between Johann Zarco (Pramac Ducati), Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), and the Suzuki Ecstar duo, Joan Mir and Alex Rins.

There were a lot of drama that happened during the race, including the falls from Honda's Marc Marquez, Takaaki Nakagami, Alex Rins, and weirdly, Enea Bastianini who crashed into Zarco during the warm-up lap before they lined up on the grid to start the race. Once the chequered flag was waved, it was Quartararo, Oliveira, and Mir who successfully completed the race on the podium.

At the end of the day, Quartararo extended his lead in the championship title chase with 105 points collected so far, followed by Johann Zarco with 81 points (he finished 4th in yesterday's race),  Francesco Bagnaia with 79 points, and Jack Miller (Ducati factory rider finished 6th yesterday) with 74 points. All the thoughts and prayers go out to Jason Dupasquier. Ride in peace.
