Exclusive: BMW to launch special edition M3 with functioning indicators

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, BMW’s M Division will release a special edition M3 equipped with functioning indicators.

If the take-up of this special edition is successful, a BMW insider has confirmed to TopGear.com that the company may take the unprecedented step of rolling out ‘indicators that actually indicate’ across its entire range.

“BMW has never subscribed to traditional motoring norms,” a BMW insider said. “Our cars have always stood apart, approximately half a foot from your rear bumper.

“And some time in the early Nineties, we realised we’d never got round to wiring up the indicators in the M3. No driver ever appeared to notice, so we’ve never bothered connecting them since. But with our special anniversary edition, we’ve decided that informing other road users about the M3’s intended direction of travel might be a good thing,”

The functioning indicator stalks will be offered as part of the ‘Wellness and Convenience M Pack Pro+ III’. Aiming to 'highlight the M3's friendlier side', the pack also includes a CD of whale-song noises, and a giant mask to cover the car’s awful hulking snout.
