Could F1’s rule change delay make Hamilton the GOAT?

By topgear, 23 March 2020

Formula 1 bosses, the FIA and all 10 teams have agreed to place plans for 2021’s radical rule change on hold until the 2022 season, due to the impact that the coronavirus pandemic is having on the sport.

It’s an extremely sensible decision given the need to pause development of new cars and potentially close factories, whilst the team’s incomes are also affected by the lack of races in 2020.

So, we all know Merc is still a smidge ahead of its closest competitors. And Lewis, truly a once-in-a-generation driver, currently has six world championship titles, just one behind Michael Schumacher’s record number of seven. With two seasons now left under the current regulations – provided this season’s calendar can be rescheduled – it could give the Brit a strong hope of becoming the most successful F1 driver of all time.

Reckon he can do it before the cars are completely redesigned, Internet?
