So now we know what it is. The teaser video Subaru posted not long ago about a ‘special’ STI making its way to America is in fact the latest S209. Great news, as the S200 series is the only proper souped up STI that’s consistently made. And they’re always hot.

The video shows gold wheels and GT wing to complete that S209 look (plus a large hood scoop). We still have no idea about the engine, although it will inevitably be using the turbo 2.5-litre flat four, likely tweaked to over 350hp (the more the better!), manual box, and a serious suspension system.

Subaru Tecnica International will unveil the STI S209 on 14 January at the North American International Auto Show. Yup, that’s also where Toyota will finally (FINALLY!) reveal the A90 Supra.
