Chery sells over 100k units in January
Chery Group began 2023 strongly by selling 101,379 units globally in January (+16.5% year-on-year, or YoY), its eighth consecutive month of sales in excess of 100,000 units since June 2022. The Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 7 series continued to sell well, posting 10,856 and 12,768 units respectively in said month.
The company’s triumphant January follows on from its spectacular 2022, when it sold a record 1.23 million units globally, including nearly half a million units outside China (+68% YoY). Chery has now been the top-exporting Chinese brand in terms of passenger cars for 20 years in a row.
This achievement is rooted in Chery’s persistence in mastering core technologies through independent research and development (R&D). The company has five R&D centres worldwide, with an over-7,000-strong R&D team, many of whom are senior designers and engineers who have served world-class automotive enterprises.
In the 2022 JD Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, the Tiggo 8 Pro ranked second in the mid-sized SUV segment. The model has also won numerous awards including ‘2022 Most Innovative Model’ in Saudi Arabia, ‘Best Medium-sized SUV of the Year’ in Mexico and ‘Best Mid-size Crossover Vehicle’ at the CAMPI Philippine International Motor Show. The 2023 Auto Award Ceremony in Sao Paulo crowned the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV with ‘Best Engine under 2.0 litres’, while the Tiggo 8 won the coveted ‘Best SUV of the Year’ in Brazil.
Chery unveiled its 2025 cutting-edge technology strategy in September 2022, presenting a ‘Technology Chery’ that breaks the traditional impression of the outside world. Chery’s layout not only spans multiple fields such as traditional core technology and CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Sharing and Electric) technology, but also covers multiple dimensions such as basic systems, cutting-edge technologies, sharing platforms, digital economy, value chain and ecosystem.
The ’Technology Chery’ of today is not only a building elevated layer upon layer, but also a living innovation ecosystem. Many technological achievements have already been applied to its mass-produced products for many years, increasing their competitiveness and contributing to the rapid growth in Chery Group’s sales.
Be it the Q-POWER series widely used in many Chery models, the Lion intelligent cabin enjoyed by over one million users, or the EEA 4.0 electronic and electrical architecture, all are the concentrated manifestation of ‘Technology Chery’ promoting rapid product iterations, allowing them to gain differentiated advantages in each market segment.
In 2023, Chery will continue to drive ‘Technology Chery’ forward to take its sales, vehicle quality and reputation to new heights.
