Bro, there’s a hologram in your car’s boot

Volkswagen GTI’s are known to be fast, and very good at doing it. Wanna know something else it can do – holograms. Let us explain…

The place is Worthersee, or Lake Worth in Austria, during the ongoing GTI meet. So right off the bat you know strange things could be going on. In this case it’s the Golf GTI Aurora, which features a high-end sound system that can be controlled via a hologram. Yup, like in the movies.

The technology behind it is still a trade secret but basically a software algorithm and visual tech components create the floating image, and the system can recognise the user’s operating requirements before implementing them. So, when can we see them in your next Golf or Passat? Don’t hold your breath; because as Mark Möller, Head of Development at Volkswagen Group Components say, “it will be some time before it can be used in production vehicles.”
