BMW’s product strategy boss finds a convertible crossover interesting

The SUV/crossover segment has established itself as being a car manufacturer’s money maker. For any car manufacturer for that matter; something which even brand’s like Rolls Royce and Lamborghini acknowledge through their own Cullinan and Urus models.

BMW

But how far can they push the design? BMW has taken it far with the X6 to the point that it has been copied by other car companies, but the most creative arguably has been Range Rover with the Evoque convertible. And one top executive from the Munich company has reportedly said the idea of a convertible crossover is an interesting one.

Digital Trends recently quoted BMW’s director of product planning and strategy, Ralph Mahler, “It’s an interesting topic… All these kinds of questions we have asked ourselves in the past. Whether or not there is a possibility, whether or not there is a market.”

“You see the lineup at the moment. We don’t have one but nonetheless I think it’s still an interesting question.”

It certainly won’t be a high volume model, if nothing but based on the Evoque convertible sales performance. But it will fill a niche, something which BMW has not been quite on top of unlike Mercedes.
