BMW Motorrad officially launches its first all-electric motorcycle

By sep, 08 July 2021

When BMW Motorrad introduced the BMW Motorrad Definition CE 04 concept electric scooter back in 2020, it was indeed an interesting prospect in terms of what it can do for urban mobility paired with a very refined exterior design. Who knew that they've kept most of that futuristic look when they finally announced the final production version, and we're definitely more excited about it.

The CE 04 plans to offer a very eco-friendly solution to everyday urban mobility thanks to what it is able to offer. It's really nothing over the top, but most likely slightly more than enough to get the job done. Powered by a liquid-cooled electric motor, the CE 04 produces a maximum of 42hp which is able to propel it from 0-50km/h in just 2.6 seconds. Top speed? 120km/h.

This is paired with the CE 04's 8.9kWh battery cell that is able to cover a range of around 130km for every full charge. This is the same lithium-ion battery unit found in the BMW iX that can be charged using the normal household socket, wallbox, and public charging stations. It'll take around 4 hours and 20 minutes to get the CE 04 fully charged using the normal socket and standard 2.3kW charger.

There's also the option to get the 6.9kW quick charger (Mode 3 charging cable required for this one) that can help cut down the time to less than two hours. If it's around 20%, getting it juiced up to 80% will only take around 45 minutes. Again, perfect for those pesky daily commutes.

Anyway, the BMW CE 04 also comes with specs like:

  • Automatic Stability Control (ASC)
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
  • Selectable Riding Modes (ECO, Rain, Road)
  • Single-sided swingarm
  • 15-inch wheels (120/70 front, 160/60 rear)
  • Front twin disc brakes + ABS (ABS Pro optional)
  • 10-25-inch full-colour TFT screen
  • All-LED lighting system + many more

The price range for the all-electric BMW CE 04 scooter starts at around $11,800 (around RM49,200) if you're living in the US. If BMW Motorrad Malaysia decides to bring this baby into the local market, it'll most likely be around next year, and also a slightly higher price tag. But that's a small price to pay to help save the world.
