BMW Malaysia launches all-new X4

By ahmadzulizwan, 29 May 2019

During the Iftar event with the media earlier tonight hosted by BMW Malaysia, three big announcements were made – two of them involves the addition of a new X2 variant (X2 M35i), and impending arrival of the new X5. But that’s only happening a bit later; July for the X2 and August for the X5.

What’s immediately available (from 1 June 2019 to be precise) is the all-new X4, which replaces the first-gen model which was introduced here in 2014. BMW Malaysia will start with a single variant in the form of the X4 xDrive30i M Sport, priced at an estimated RM380,000. Rather impressive, looking at how the previous X4 xDrive28i started from over RM438,000. To answer your question, yes – the second-gen BMW X4 will be locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah. Yay local assembly.

Naturally, the vehicle retains the coupe-like roofline with large wheel housings, and following the X5 and 7 Series, sports a distinctly larger kidney grille. Size goes up to: +81mm overall length, +37mm for width, making it 4,752mm and 1,918mm respectively. Enhancing the sporty stance is the -3mm lower roofline.

The new X4’s 2.0-litre petrol engine packs 252hp and 350Nm. The increased use of lightweight aluminium brings the weight down by 50kg, and together with improved aero, helps to get the X4 to 100kph in 6.3 seconds, without a huge penalty to efficiency. BMW claims a combined fuel consumption of 7.8 litre/100km. The transmission is the smooth 8-speed Steptronic transmission also seen in almost all other BMWs in the company’s stable.

Colour offerings for the All-New BMW X4 include Alpine White, Carbon Black, Flamenco Red and Phytonic Blue. Black Vernasca leather upholstery is available for all exterior offerings while the new Tacora Red Vernasca leather upholstery is exclusive to Alpine White and Carbon Black.
