Are reports of 1,000hp Corvette C8 real?

There’s very little waiting left before Chevrolet officially unveils the all-new C8 Corvette next week. Provided, that is, they don’t find any reason to delay the launch because the C8 was supposed to be out earlier than July 18 after it missed on its January schedule, appearing at the Detroit show.

The cause for the delay was a rather good one, so much so that I think it should have actually been a talking point to promote Corvette’s first mid-engined model. It turns out that the top shelf variant believed with an output of up to 1,000hp is too strong for some aluminium components to the point of fracturing the glass hatch covering the engine. According to this report, the fault in the twin-turbo V8 variant was found during testing.

There are other factors too: there are still bugs in the car’s computer modules, and disagreements between the designers and development engineers of the C8.

But finally, a mid-engined Corvette – an idea that has been around for quite a while but cancelled for various reasons, including an economic recession. Now, Chevrolet has something to properly rival Ferrari’s sportscars. Will it?
