Here it is ladies and gentlemen, the BMW Z4 is now officially available in Malaysia. The roadster of roadsters, the Supra of BMW, and all-round stunner is priced at RM479,800, the sole variant being the sDrive30i M with M Sport kit.
Not that you don’t already know that it makes 258hp or with 400Nm of peak torque between 1,550rpm to 4,400rpm, especially when it was previewed during the BMW G20 launch (in fact, the two cars share the same engine and power output). The Z4 is faster to the century, however, which it does in 5.4 seconds compared to the 3 Series’ 5.8. Power goes to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic.
The unmistakable roadster look with long nose end and short overhangs plus canvas roof has grown a tad – length is up by 85mm to 4,324mm) compared to its predecessor, while width and height goes up by 74mm and 13mm respectively (now 1,864mm and 1,304mm). The result is not only an increase in interior space but also more storage compartments and larger luggage room at the back.
The interior is expectedly driver-focussed and now incorporating features including indirect ambient lighting and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional. The all-new Z4 comes with Intelligent Parking Assistant featuring the Reversing Assistant that works with parallel or perpendicular parking maneuvers. The new Reversing Assist could prove useful in tight parking spots too as the system remembers the lasts 50 metres of the drive to the parking space and will use that knowledge to assist the driver in exiting the spot by taking over the wheel.
Like the BMW 3 Series G20, the Z4 also features the BMW Digital. This technology takes advantage of Near Field Communication (NFC) available in select Android phones and use it to lock and unlock the roadster. The corresponding smartphone only needs to be held next to the door handle before gaining access, and placing the phone in the Wireless Charging or smartphone tray allows the driver to start the engine.
The all-new BMW Z4 offers four vibrant exterior colours in San Francisco Red, Misano Blue, Black Sapphire and Alpine White, matched with interior options of Black décor with Black stitching, Magma Red with Black stitching or Cognac with Black stitching.
