BMW R18 First Edition
BMW Motorrad Malaysia updated in line up today as it announced the availability of the all-new 2020 BMW S1000XR model. Besides that, the firm also announced that its new boxer-powered flagship retro offering the R18 is now open for bookings too.
We’ll start with the S1000XR and, for the uninitiated, this is the new second-generation version of the brand’s litre-class adventure-styled sport-tourer that underpins the manic S1000RR superbike – it shares the same 999cc 4-cyl powertrain.
In XR form, said mill offers a stout 162bhp and 114Nm output readouts instead, which is enough to propel its claimed 226kg (kerb) bulk up to a claimed top speed of 200kph according to BMW.
Unlike its track-bred S1000RR twin, this one is more comfortable to ride thanks to upright riding ergonomics, large windscreen, and long-travel suspension. That last feature is also beefed with an intelligent Dynamic ESA suite.
Other clever bits present include MSR (Motor Speed Regulation), DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), ABS Pro, Hill-Start Control Pro, four selectable ride modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro), and an interactive new TFT digital dash display.
Notable too are the optional accessories menu BMW Motorrad Malaysia has prepared for the S1000XR. It includes panniers, top case and soft bags, carbon fiber crash bars, M machined parts, as well as low, tall or tinted windshield choices.
Available through authorised BMW Motorrad dealers nationwide starting this month, the new second generation BMW S1000XR commands a base retail price of RM121,500 sans options and insurance costs.
Included in said price is BMW Motorrad Malaysia's 3-Year Warranty and 3-Year Roadside Assistance Programmes.
In the case of the new BMW R18, BMW Motorrad Malaysia have opened up the order books for this brand new flagship retro offering locally. Just 18 units of which are up for grabs, all exclusively specced in ‘First Edition’ form.
To refresh your memory, this massive yet gorgeous retro bike packs BMW’s signature boxer-twin heart. Notably, it’s a big and torquey one at that thanks to its 1,802cc and 158Nm figures, and it’s paired with a rather exquisite shaft-drive setup too.
Prospects keen on snapping up one of these 18 units destined for the local market can do so online via a special booking webpage. Just like its massive size, each R18 First Edition commands an equally massive starting price of RM156,600.
Once again, BMW Motorrad Malaysia's 3-Year Warranty and 3-Year Roadside Assistance Programmes are included in said price.
