All-new 2023 Lexus RX unveiled - New design, new variant, more space
The fifth-generation Lexus RX undergoes a complete renewal
Lexus has just premiered the all-new fifth-generation RX, which is completely new from the ground up.
Rocking a more radical design, the all-new RX is built on Lexus' GA-K platform which is equipped with multi-link rear suspension for high dynamic performance.
Measuring 4,890 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, the RX is now 25 mm wider and 10 mm lower while the length of the wheelbase has increased by 60 mm, translating into a more spacious cabin.
For the exterior design, Lexus has made the RX look much sportier now thanks to the new front end which looks even more radical than the outgoing model, as well as a new rear end which also looks significantly sexier than before. The wheel design is also fresh from the factory.
There will be four powertrain options depending on the variant, which are as listed below:
- 2.4-litre turbocharged HEV DIRECT4 AWD hybrid
- 2.5-litre E-Four plug-in hybrid
- 2.5-litre HEV E-Four FWD hybrid
- 2.4-litre turbocharged AWD
Another highlight is the addition of the new RX 500h F Sport Performance hybrid variant which will be powered by the aforementioned 2.4-litre turbocharged engine as well as a rear high output electric motor that is paired with the Direct4 all-wheel drive system.
The variant will also feature a Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) system which claims to have increased the level of the RX's maneuverability as well as high speed stability.
As for the interior, the folks at Lexus have completely redesigned the cockpit. It is said that the all-new RX's cabin will be more driver-oriented and more spacious.
Where safety is concerned, the all-new RX will come with the latest Lexus Safety System+ advanced preventive safety technology, and the Lexus Teammate system.
Lexus also announced that a generous dose of lightweight material has gone into the all-new RX, promising in increased agility and a more engaging driving experience.
