2023 Toyota GR Corolla officially launched - 300hp, 370Nm torque

The Toyota GR Corolla has 100hp per cylinder. Quick math!

Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) has finally unveiled its latest and all-new 2023 Toyota GR Corolla. Launched in Long Beach, California, in conjunction with the 2022 Formula Drift opening round, the GR Corolla definitely has the hype and figures to back it up as a proper hot hatch with a GR batch.

Going straight to power, the new GR Corolla is powered by the G16E-GTS 1.6-litre inline-three turbocharged engine as the one found in the GR Yaris. What's different about it now is that they've bumped up the figures to 300hp and 370Nm of torque. That's around 40hp and 10Nm more than the already manic GR Yaris!

And then there's the valve-equipped triple-exhaust muffler which helps to reduce exhaust pressure and noise while helping with the extra horsepower added to the whole powertrain, which includes the GR-Four 4WD system with variable front and rear driving force distribution. It's just like the one found on the GR Yaris, with some improvements and enhancements (think of it as a GR-Four 2.0).

They've also mentioned that the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla will only be available with the six-speed manual transmission. Once inside, you'll find the short-stroke shift lever with a lowered position for a more natural operation.

Based on the Toyota Corolla Sport bodywork, the GR Corolla's dedicated unibody has been fortified with a wider stance thanks to its 60mm wider track up front and 85mm wider track in the rear. This resulted in a five-door five-seater Corolla that can slay corners with razor-sharp precision as well as providing enough comfort for daily drives.

Other notable features include:

  • 18-inch 15-spoke cast alloy wheels (Gloss Black)
  • Ventilated disks (18-inch four-pot calipers front, 16-inch two-pot calipers rear)
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres (234/40R18)
  • 50-litre fuel tank
  • Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 driving aids

The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla will be available at the end of the year around the globe in stages. No price has been indicated just yet, but customers can choose between White, Black, or Supersonic Red.

Want something a bit more extra? Then opt for the Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition with its forged carbon fibre roof, hood, and other tasty bits and pieces both on the outside and inside. You'll also get the red-painted GR brake calipers to pair with its exclusive Heavy Metal colour option (also available in White and Red). This model will only be available in 2023.
