The 2022 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 is now open for booking!

Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM) has officially introduced its latest 2022 Volkswagen Golf Mk8 range for the Malaysian market, and it comes in two different variants - Golf R-Line and the Golf GTI.

What's even more amazing is the fact that these models are also locally-assembled right here in Malaysia, including the Golf GTI. Previously, the Golf GTI variant has only been manufactured and assembled in Germany and China only.

Starting with the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line, its overall design has taken quite a progressive turn following seven generations of success. The new Golf is now said to have a cleaner and more contemporary facade that sits comfortably in this day and age.

This can be seen via its sleeker front grille, slimmer LED headlights, R-line bits and pieces, plus many more. Riding on 17-inch wheels, the Golf R-Line carries a more subtle yet modern design approach that is still undeniably a Golf.

Step inside the cabin and you'll quickly notice that Golf has gone through quite an evolution. There's the latest generation 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit, multifunction steering wheel with haptic-touch features, a 10-inch infotainment system, and a very sleek-looking gear selector.

The Golf R-Line also comes with a pair of front sport seats wrapped with Sardegna fabric for added comfort. Firepower comes in the form of the same 1.4TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 150PS and 250Nm of torque. What's different now is its new 8-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire.

But if more power and sporty features that you're looking for, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI might just be the one for you. Carrying the same design elements and updates as the base Golf R-Line, the GTI variant carries a slightly sportier look and feel thanks to its GTI trims and finishes, as well as its bigger 18-inch wheels.

Under the hood lies a 2.0TSI turbocharged engine that now churns out a healthy 245PS and 370Nm of torque, a slight increase from the previous-gen model. Its transmission unit has also been updated with a new 7-speed wet-clutch DSG unit.

The insides are more or less the same as the Golf R-Line apart from some GTI-exclusive design features to set them apart. Future owners can look forward to a much cleaner cabin with no dials, just touch-sensitive buttons for every aspect of the vehicle, including its wireless Apple CarPlay feature.

For those who are interested, the 2022 Volkswagen Golf R-Line is priced from RM155,000 to RM165,000 while the Golf GTI variant comes in from RM211,689 (OTR excluding insurance + sales tax exemption). You can the R-Line and GTI finished in Moonstone Grey, Kings Red, Atlantic Blue, Deep Black, and Oryx White.
