The 2022 Toyota Camry is here, and it's no longer an 'uncle's car'

Just weeks after the launch of the new Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid variant, UMW Toyota is keeping its momentum strong with the launch of the 2022 Toyota Camry. Sleeker than ever, the new Camry still carries that 'executive' look and feel, but some visual updates and enhancements have turned it into something that's no longer reserved for just uncles.

The exterior has been freshened up with a wider and lower grille plus some ornaments on the side to further amplify its wideness. As you move to the sides, you'll notice its new 18-inch rim design with darker highlights. The new Camry's Smart Entry System is now available on the front passenger side as well.

As you move towards the rear, its rear combination lamps are now slightly tinted and extended to make things a bit more proportionate and sporty. These are relatively minor cosmetic updates, but it sure creates a huge and different impression now for the Camry.

While the exterior changes might be minor, the powertrain has been immensely upgraded thanks to a new 2.5-litre 'Dynamic Force' engine which now produces 209PS and 253Nm of torque (25PS and 18Nm more compared to the previous-gen model). Three drive modes are available - Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Even the gearbox is different. The 2022 Toyota Camry has moved away from the six-speed AT in order to make room for a brand-new eight-speed Direct Shift AT (with paddle shifters) which is said to offer better acceleration as well as fuel efficiency (around 8% fuel consumption improvement at 6.8L/100km).

On the inside, the 2022 Toyota Camry carries more updates in terms of new tri-zone climate control, higher AC vents upfront, new and bigger 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with JBL speakers, reclining rear seats (up to eight degrees), rear control panel, and updated ornamentation for a slightly elevated 'executive' feel.

UMW Toyota has priced its new 2022 Toyota Camry at RM199,109.50 (OTR excluding insurance) and it's only available in the 2.5V spec. Customers can choose between four different colour options - Red Mica, Burning Black, Graphite Metallic, Silver Metallic, and its new hero colour, Platinum White Pearl Mica.
