Honda has teased the next-gen 2022 Honda Civic Type R before heading to Nürburgring for some testing

The last Honda Civic Type R was the FK8 launched back in 2017, and Honda has decided that a new one will be introduced in 2022. A couple of teaser photos were released by the giant Japanese manufacturer together with the announcement of the next-gen Honda Civic Type R heading to Nürburgring for some testing as well as R&D.

Covered in one heck of a beautiful camo graphics, diehard enthusiasts can easily spot all the iconic design cues of a proper Honda Civic Type R. One quick pass of its front end and you'll see that it's not that entirely different from the Civic Hatchback, apart from the new grille mesh.

Based on the only two photos provided, we can safely say that Honda went for a 'smoother' exterior design approach as compared to the very aggressive and sharp-looking FK8. Some would say it's more 'safe' or 'conservative', especially after having a closer look at some of its features like the front wheel vents, skirts, exhaust pipes, and rear wing. But those wheels? Fire.

Honda, however, is keeping a very tight lid on the development (even the press release only contains two sentences and around 20 words). The only thing that's certain is that the next-gen Honda Civic Type R will be launched in 2022, but not before some hardcore testing sessions at the Nürburgring as well as some much-needed road testing phases.
