Hong Leong Yamaha Motor (HLYM) has finally brought in its latest 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR for the Malaysian market. The third generation “Yaisuku” is said to be the most powerful 155cc motorcycle in its class with a beautiful and sexy design to match paired together with enhanced handling thanks to all the newly added features on this new Yamaha offering.

Inspired by the brand’s bigger capacity sports bikes like the Yamaha YZF-R1 and YZF-R6, the new Y16ZR offers a much greater sporty appeal for those looking for something that’s really modern and aggressive. Its biggest highlight has to be its new front LED headlight setup that’s very ‘garang’ and flows to the rear with resemblances to the Yamaha YZR-R15.

According to Dato’ Jim Khor, Group Managing Director of Hong Leong Industries Berhad, “The All-New Yamaha Y16ZR comes with a string of new special features and stays true to Yamaha’s DNA which is synonymous to Performance, Style and Innovation. We take pride in our ability to continue to meet the demands of our customers and are certain that the Y16ZR is able to do this with. It is different in all aspects beginning with its new drivetrain to its design and mechanical components.”

Another similarity between the Yamaha Y16ZR and the YZF-R15 is its 155cc single-cylinder SOHC VVA liquid-cooled engine (also similar to the MT-15) which produces around 17.7hp at 9,500rpm and 14.4Nm of torque at 8,000rpm. All that power is sent down to the rear wheel via a six-speed manual transmission that is also enhanced with an assist/slipper clutch (plus different ignition mapping for each gear).

You’ll also get other neat specs like a new LCD screen, 12-volt charging socket, a 5.4-litre fuel tank, 17-inch wheels (90/80 front, 120/70 rear), telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, hydraulic disc brakes, smart key system, plus many more.

All Hong Leong Yamaha Motor authorised dealers will be selling the new 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR at RM10,888 (excluding insurance, road tax and registration). Customers can choose between several colour options – Phantom Grey, Arrow Blue and Raging Yellow. The new 155cc offering will be available at all showrooms starting 31 March 2021.
