The third-generation Isuzu D-Max has finally been unveiled for the Malaysian market, and it promises to be a pick-up truck offering with a new level of sophistication and finesse into an already very capable workhorse. Refined in every aspect, the new Isuzu D-Max range comes with a bolder look, enhanced dimensions, and upgraded powertrain as well as technology.

There are seven different variants on offer ranging from a single-cab manual all the way up to its range-topping Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain, which comes with all the biggest updates from Isuzu. Starting with the looks, the entire range now comes with a bolder facade, which has been targeted to close the gap between lifestyle and utility. This can be clearly seen thanks to its crimped Bi-LED headlight design that can be found on all the automatic variants.

Its ruggedness is further amplified with its sculpted V-shaped bonnet, unitary bumper design, and a large radiator grille that not only looks good but also improves its overall aerodynamics. For the X-Terrain model, you'll also get a set of aerofoil wipers integrated into the wiper arm as well as a front windscreen that's able to absorb infra-red and UV rays to promote better comfort in the cabin.

Even the dimensions of the pick-up truck have been enhanced to offer more space in the cabin as well as the ability to go through water up to 800mm deep (200mm more than its predecessor). Step inside the cabin and you'll also get more comfortable seats (made with Anti Vibration Elastic Comfort Foam), particularly the rear with extra shoulder room and angled at 24-degrees.

The centre console has been repositioned that's higher and wider to offer a more 'sporty' driving experience. There's a 4.2-inch high-definition TFT-LCD display combined with the speedometer and tachometer for greater info display for the driver. As for the Multi-Info Display, there's a nine-inch unit for the X-Terrain and seven-inch for the Premium. Only the top two models come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard.

Going a bit more technical, the entire chassis is built on the brand's latest Isuzu Dynamic Drive Platform which is said to offer better rigidity, ride comfort, dynamic handling, and durability. It's also lighter compared to its predecessor thanks to additions of a new aluminium propeller shaft, redesigned springs, and upgraded brakes just to name a few.

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Automatic High Beam
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert + many more

As for firepower, the new 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine has been extensively enhanced to provide better NVH levels as well as power output, which now comes in at around 190hp and 450Nm of torque. You'll also find the award-winning 1.9-litre unit from the previous-gen still available in this new range of the D-Max.

As for pricing, the 2021 Isuzu D-Max starts at RM99,599 up to RM140,784 (on-the-road prices excluding insurance). Availability for the latest pick-up truck range from Isuzu Malaysia will start at the end of April. For more information, head over to the nearest authorised dealers located nationwide.
