BMW Malaysia has introduced two new locally-assembled BMW 5 Series models for the Malaysian market in the form of the 2021 BMW 530e M Sport and the BMW 530i M Sport. Customers now have a choice between the normal petrol variant or the plug-in hybrid in the 5 Series range, now available as CKD units.

Leading the way as BMW's most successful premium executive models, both the 530e M Sport and 530i M Sport are fitted with the M Aerodynamics package, which includes larger kidney grilles and slimmer headlights with a new daytime-running light design. The 530e M Sport gets Adaptive LED headlights, whereas the 530i M Sport is readily fitted with the BMW Laserlight. Both models are also fitted high-beam assistant with automatic switching feature.

Both models are also fitted with redesigned front and rear bumpers that come with larger air intakes and new BMW L-shape LED taillight elements where the light source is integrated into the the unit's outer layer to maximise the 3D effect. The 530e M Sport comes with the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line frames, while the 530i M Sport gets the BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminium Satinated.

These new BMW 5 Series CKD models ride on new 19-inch M light-alloy Y-Spoke 845 M Bi-Colour Jet Black wheels with both mixed and run-flat tyres. Look a bit closer within and you'll find Adaptive Suspension, M Sport brake with blue M Sport callipers, and double-sided trapezoidal exhaust tailpipe finishers that blend into the diffuser insert.

In terms of firepower, both the 530e and 530i are equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine which produces 252hp and 350Nm of torque. Since the 530e M Sport is a PHEV model, its BMW eDrive electric motor increases the model's total output to 292hp and 420Nm of torque. And that's all controlled via an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission system. Top speed? 235km/h for the 530e and 250km/h for the 530i.

The 530e M Sport can travel up to 67km without having to use a single drop of fuel and the internal battery unit can be fully charged in 3 hours 35 minutes using the BMW i Wallbox (under six hours if you're using the conventional main socket via a standard charging cable). You can basically drive the thing up to 110km/h in pure electric mode, but that goes up to 140km/h if you switch it into MAX eDRIVE mode.

Safety features that are available in both models include Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), and the Antilock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist.

There's also the Driving Assistance system which includes Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning, front collision alert with brake intervention, rear collision prevention, and crossing-traffic warning, plus the Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View camera. Opt for the 530i M Sport and you'll also get the Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function.

  • M leather steering wheel
  • M sport seats with Dakota Leather upholstery + BMW Individual anthracite headliner
  • Aluminium Rhombicle interior trim finishers
  • Electrical glass roof (only for the 530i M Sport)
  • BMW Live Cockpit Professional with BMW's OS 7
