2020 VW Passat 2.0 Elegance lands – RM187,990
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) kicked off its 2020 efforts today with the introduction of its new and refreshed 2020 Volkswagen Passat 2.0 Elegance offering.
This German D-segment stalwart packs a barrage of new features and amenities that’s poised to see it sit at the top of its class. Here’s what we can garner after sizing it up in the flesh during its launch held at the Volkswagen Puchong Autohaus.
On the surface, it’s plain to see the B8 generation Passat has undergone a slight nip-tuck, looking sharper and cleaner that before. Highlights include redesigned all-LED lighting front and aft, its new model lettering badge running across the tailgate, as well as snazzy 18-inch 'Liverpool' alloys.
On board, the cabin sees some light refreshments too with redesigned door trims and leather-wrapped steering wheel, the latter now brimmed with enhanced infotainment controls. There’s also a new powered roll-up sunshade to complement 12-way power-adjustable fronts seats equipped with massage function, tri-zone automatic climate control and 30-colour cabin ambient lighting suite present.
Fully revised here is the infotainment suite as it now boasts enhanced wireless connectivity via a smartphone app. On top of that, the suite is now brimmed with Apple CarPlay, both voice command and gensture control abilities, as well as a capacitive 9.2-inch touch display panel.
The display itself is interactive and presents itself in a three-view split screen format with over 30 personalisation combinations available in both 2D and 3D graphics. Besides that, the suite also offers Bluetooth connectivity, as well as three illuminated USB-C ports.
On to the mechanical bit and the Passat 2.0 Elegance marks the first front-wheel-drive (FWD) VW model in Malaysia to receive VW’s new 7-speed wet clutch DSG automatic box. It manages the 190hp and 320Nm outputs churned out by the lightly updated 2.0-litre TSI 4cyl turbo heart sitting up front, which also boasts a claimed WLTP fuel economy rating of 6.5 litres/100km.
Another area that’s been strengthened is safety, and the Passat 2.0 Elegance is now equipped with new Side Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Blind Sport Monitoring (BSM), as well as a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard equipment.
Like its predecessor, this refreshed flagship saloon is locally assembled (CKD) in Pekan, Pahang. It will also have the choice of six colours and two finishes for buyers to choose from. As for price, this refreshed flagship from VW commands a starting figure of RM187,990, and is now available at all authorised VW dealerships.
