Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG in a big way with the introduction of the 43 model line. Wait, hang on. The 65 and 45 lines are already in Malaysia, and looking at the number, the 43 should be the least powerful. Right?
First of all, no. The 45 may be the larger number but it is actually the designation for 2-litre, 4-cylinder AMG engines first seen in the A45. The 43 outranks the 45 in the grand scheme of things, you see. Also, secondly, MBM is not just launching a single 43 model; instead there are six.
The six are: SLC 43, C 43 4Matic, C 43 4Matic Coupe, GLC 43 4Matic, GLC 43 4Matic Coupe and the flagship E 43 4Matic. They all share the same 3-litre V6 engine with biturbo, although there are two power output. The most powerful naturally goes to the E 43 4Matic. Best to look at each model, then:

9G-TRONIC transmission
All 43 series models are equipped with 9G-TRONIC which allows for multiple downshifts for fast sprints and an emotional double declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. The speed briefly revs up to 2000 rpm in “Sports Plus” driving range as the idle speed is also raised. With the efficient coasting function on “Eco” programme, the vehicle uses its own kinetic energy.
AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension
The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with AMG-specific axle components features continuous damping adjustment which can be set to 3 damping levels – “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. In addition, with the AMG sports suspension based on AIR BODY CONTROL (GLC 43 Coupé 4MATIC, E 43 4MATIC), different height levels can be set. The AMG Handling Package with AMG rear axle differential lock is available in the SLC 43 for improved traction in all driving situations.
4MATIC Drive
The standard all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC (except on the SLC 43) is characterised by the rear-biased torque distribution of 31% on the front axle to 69% on the rear axle.
