Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has launched the locally-assembled version of the W213 E Class, a move which of course means that the popular sedan will be priced even more appealingly. There are three variants: the E200 Avantgarde Line, E250 Avantgarde Line and E250 Exclusive Line (the same as before).

The Avantgarde models for E200 and E250 both feature the sports radiator grille and Mercedes star on the bonnet while the sole Exclusive variant comes with the classic three-pointed star logo propped up front which is paired with the classic grille.

It goes without saying that the real excitement about the W213 now locally-assembled is about its price. All-in-all we can say that the price decrease across the three models goes up to RM47,000.

Of course, nothing changes underneath the bonnet. Each variant is powered by a 4-cylinder, 2-litre engine that produces two different outputs for each car. 184hp/300Nm for the E200 Avantgarde, 211hp and 350Nm for the E250 Avantgarde and top-spec E250 Exclusive.

They are all claimed to have a 5.9-litre/100km fuel consumption figure. This is despite a performance that read a 7.7 seconds for the century sprint for the E200 Avantgarde, and 6.9 sec for the other two variants. Power goes to the rear wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

The car inside remains to be a conversation by itself, with the digital meter display and centre screen seamlessly blending as one. There are three ‘styles’ to choose from too: Classic, Sport and Progressive.

Also worth noting – and perhaps best described as a novelty – is the interior lighting that uses LED tech. Being what it is, it can display quite a few colours – 64, to be precise!

The new CKD W213 E Class also comes with Agility Control suspension with selective damping system. Four modes in its Dynamic Select function are Comfort, ECO, Sport and Sport+, which honestly, are all just different levels of plush. Which is good, in case you get confused easily.

The Pre-Safe system, Active Brake Assist, multibeam LED headlamps and Parking Pilot are all standard features.
