Luminox ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 Series 2019

Following up on last year’s phenomenal success, American tactical timepiece purveyors Luminox have introduced the new Arctic 1200 Series stainless steel models in the ICE-SAR line locally, complete with interesting details and new colours.

For those curious, ICE-SAR stands for he Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue. Luminox serves as this specialised rescue unit’s official partner, supplying it with its signature rugged, shock resistant construction, robust water resistance and luminous timepieces for them to conduct their missions.

Back to the timepieces themselves and, arguably the most eye-catching piece here is the ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 offering, which sports a blue case on a textile strap. The collection features four other variations: black on textile strap, black on steel bracelet, white on textile strap, and white on a steel bracelet.

Notably, the textile strap variant also features reflective material imbedded in the textile for additional safety at night, which in turn mimicks the hi-vis clothing that the ICE-SAR team wears. Notable too is the case’s screw-down case back and crown, which grant these watches with water resistance of up to 200 meters (20 ATM).

Closer inspection also shows plenty of other details to marvel in. Highlights include the dial’s hands that are inspired by the carabiners used by the ICE-SAR rescuers, not forgetting the red graphic that surround the date window that is actually the ICE-SAR logo.

The dial, on which is printed a map of the world, with the coordinates of the ICE-SAR headquarters in Reykjavik in the middle, is protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and framed by a bi-directional turning bezel. With this bezel, wearers can also use the Arctic 1200 series timepiece as a sun compass too.

Available for purchase now via authorised retailers, the Luminox ICE-SAR Artic 1200 Series are priced between RM3,905 and RM4,160 depending on variant. Additionally, each of these timepieces will come with a special booklet detailing their precision-led creation and Luminox’s partnership with the ICE-SAR rescue unit.
