Electric scooter racing - is it really a thing?
The eSkootr Championship will be the first electric scooter racing series that'll begin in 2022
Electric scooters have been popping up everywhere around the world, including right here in Malaysia. Those with money can get their own to zip around and those who don't can rent one for cheaps in the cities like Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya. Someone somewhere somehow had a thought in his/her mind - can we use it for racing?
Here comes the eSkootr Championship, the first international championship for electric scooters that will kick off in 2022. Currently looking for 'professional athletes' to join their race series, the eSkootr Championship will be racing its very own developed S1-X electric race scooter with F1-style tech and twin motors to boot.
With 12kW of power (roughly around 16hp), the 35kg S1-X electric race scooter is said to be the most agile electric scooter yet and has the capability to hit 100km/h. Fitted with fat 6.5-inch tyres, riders can get some considerable lean angles (over 45°) while zooming around the circuit for around 10 minutes per race.
The eSkootr Championship is looking at around thirty riders to join the league before it kicks off in 2022. You don't have to be in motorsports to compete in it, either. Basically, anyone who's into any balance-forward sports like skating, skateboarding, and surfing has the potential to succeed in what will be the first electric scooter racing championship. Anybody interested?
