Check out this RM124,773 Formula 1 slot car track

How cool is this? What you’re looking at here is a hyper-detailed slot car circuit that was originally commissioned by Formula 1 and was subsequently shipped to every F1 Grand Prix during the 2018 season.

It was located in the posh Paddock Club, so you can bet that some big names have had a play. And now you could too, because it’s going under the hammer at the RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi sale at the end of this month.

The estimate? Well, we hate to break this to you, but it’s somewhere between $20,000 - $30,000 (approx RM83,182 - RM124,773). Ouch. The money will go to charity, though – the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, which is committed to ending preventable diseases that affect the world’s poorest and most vulnerable communities.

The whole circuit was hand-built by Detroit-based company Slot Mods Raceways. It’s in 1:32 scale and is an original design that allows two cars to dice it out at a time (much like, oh, the last few seasons in Real F1). The details are awesome, aren’t they? There are hand-painted fans, bespoke buildings, real-life F1 sponsors and loads more besides. It beats our old living room Scalextric setups that’s for sure.

There’s even built-in electronic lap timing and on-track cameras to record the action. Apparently, Slot Mods’ builds take between three and six months to complete – we don’t doubt this.

What do you think? The perfect Christmas present for the big kid in all of us?
