The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY can hit speeds up to 60km/h with an average range of 110km

BMW Motorrad unveiled a number of new concept vehicles at the IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, and the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY seems to be a very interesting prospect for the future of urban mobility. AMBY which stands for "Adaptive Mobility" essentially offers two key aspects - versatility and sustainability.

These are arguably the two most important criteria when it comes to handling densely populated areas, and the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY is able to adapt according to different riding scenarios. Three different modes are available that offer three different speeds that can go up to 60km/h for use on multi-lane roads with an expected travel range of around 110km (combined according to WMTC).

Settings for cycle paths and inner-city roads can be set for slower and safer travels at 25km/h and 45km/h respectively. Those who require to travel at higher speeds will most likely require riding safety gear as well as insurance, license plate, and the relevant driving license to operate the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY accordingly.

While it might look like a bicycle or pedelec, the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY is different as its acceleration is controlled via a throttle grip while the feet are rested on footrests instead of pedals. If pedal power is something that you're more interested in, then perhaps the BMW i Vision AMBY might float your boat better.

Other notable specs include:

  • 26-inch front wheel (24-inch rear)
  • 830mm seat height
  • BMW Motorrad light signature headlight
  • Double LED element taillight
  • 65kg unladen weight + more

According to Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad, "The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY takes us into new territory. For us, the focus is on user behaviour – the question is: how will customers want to get around in the future? What will they expect their vehicle to be capable of? This was precisely the starting point of our deliberations. Our aim was to develop an extremely emotional vehicle for smart mobility in and around the city that offered maximum freedom."

"The BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY really does enable our customers to experience urban life in a whole new way, cover distances more flexibly and “break free” of the city from time to time, too. At the same time, BMW Motorrad is consistently pursuing its electromobility strategy for urban conurbations. It’s a fascinating introduction to the world of BMW Motorrad that also promises maximum riding pleasure," added Heinrich.
