If you have a MyKad and plans for a road trip to Penang anytime soon, here’s some good news. Luxury hotel chain Shangri-La has just launched Exclusive Local Rates (ELR) for its two popular resorts in Batu Ferringi – the Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort – in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2020.

On top of preferred prices for Malaysian residents, ELR also offers guests RM100 worth of resort credit that they can use to offset daily room rates or food & beverage charges. Additionally, ELR includes daily breakfast for two adults and two children (under the age of six) and 15 percent off a-la-carte Chi, The Spa treatments. Usual hospitality perks guest can expect from these resorts, such as welcome drinks and cold towels upon arrival, scheduled free shuttle buses to George Town and free WiFi on resort grounds, are naturally part of the package.

As with any promotions, terms and conditions such as room availability, requirement of proof of Malaysian residency prior to check-in, and limitation of group bookings to less than 10 rooms apply for ELR. There are also some additional charges such as 10 percent service charge, 6 percent government tax, RM3 local tourism fee per room and charges for additional adult occupants as well.

But it’s still “an opportunity to encourage more Malaysian residents to staycation in their backyard at attractive rates,” according to Sharul Madi, the director of commercial sales for both resorts.

Shangri-La’s ELR promotion for THE Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort applies for stays up till 20 December 2021, subject to room availability and blackout dates. To plan your next Penang vacation at one of these resorts, visit Shangri-La's official website
