Infiniti has heralded the arrival of its new QX30 with dual world premieres in LA and Guangzhou.

The crossover – which will go on sale at some point next year – has been built to sit alongside the x-less Q30 it was derived from in order to boost the manufacturer’s range.

The carmaker’s President Roland Krueger says: “The QX30 active crossover is joining our new premium compact family at the right time and will broaden our offer to new customers around the world.

“With our recent sales successes and record growth, the current product offensive will further strengthen Infiniti’s global market position.”

So expect to see more Infinitis in your local traffic jam.

Numerical information about the QX30 has yet to be released, although the standard Q30’s on-the-road-price of over £20,000 suggests that buyers will be paying at least another couple of grand to get their hands on its bulkier brother.

The standard 1.6 litre petrol engine in the Q30 offers 122bhp compared to the 1.5 litre diesel’s 109, although the latter produces more torque and could be the more sensible bet in the crossover.

According to Infiniti’s press release, the QX30 “boasts a purposeful appearance that makes a bold visual statement” and is aimed at “a new generation of premium buyers”.

Exactly what ‘statement’ you’ll be making in this particular crossover is unclear, although ‘I wanted a new car and this broadly suited my needs and tastes’ is our early frontrunner.
