AES cameras show that vehicle speed has dropped, according to Liow Tiong Lai
The enforcement of the demerit point fine under the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas) starting last Saturday (April 15) have impacted positively when motorists reduce their vehicles' speed.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the ministry was satisfied with the development and hoped drivers in the country would place more importance on safety when driving, after this.
"The ministry monitored 14 automated enforcement system cameras (AES) installed nationwide for the past two days. It was found that the speed of vehicles had dropped. But I will impart detailed information about it in a month.”
"I hope the government won’t have to use enforcement after this. The motorist himself will know the situation, that he has to drive slowly...because we don t want to impose a penalty or punishment. We want to save lives."
Liow said the Awas enforcement system for all driving offences would be conducted in stages until the end of the year.
