It appears that even inanimate objects succumb to sibling rivalry. At last weekend’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona, the very first 2018 Ford Mustang Bullitt sold for $300,000 (RM1.2 million).

A lot, considering the limited-edition production one will cost significantly less.

A quick recap: this 2018 Bullitt pays homage to 1968’s Bullitt starring That Man, and gets a welcome bump in power to 475bhp, a louder exhaust, GT350 intake, a manual gearbox and loads of added goodies.

It’s a cool, green muscle car with shades of San Francisco about it, so everything’s good. Only at this very same auction, a Ford GT supercar was also offered up for auction… and managed to sell for a whopping $2.25m (RM8.8 million). Eat that, brother!

“We’ve been given a tremendous opportunity to enrich the lives of so many deserving individuals,” Barrett-Jackson’s boss Steve Davis noted. Proceeds from the Ford GT sale were donated to the Autism Society of North Carolina’s Ignite Programme, and the Autism Alliance of Michigan.

The Bullitt? The full $300,000 went to the Boys Republic; a school and treatment community for youth at risk. A school which Steve McQueen himself graduated from in 1946.
