It's a debut, says Honda, that previews the mid-engined supercar's final, final, actual real-life launch 'in 2015'. The NSX will be unveiled at Detroit as an Acura, though will be rebadged as a Honda by the time it reaches Europe.

"The next-generation NSX will deliver a new sports experience true to its heritage and to the supercar concept that originally gave rise to the name NSX," said Honda's Mike Accavitti.

The NSX's chief engineer, Ted Klaus, added: "After three years of intensive development work we are excited to reveal this next-generation supercar to the world. We've developed a human-centred supercar that responds to the will of the driver." Well, it's preferable to those supercars that actively disregard the will of the driver...

Honda's staying schtum on technical details until the NSX's reveal. However, we've spoken at length to Klaus, so know a few things about the new NSX. First up, it's got its hybrid guns aimed squarely at the Ferrari 458 Italia - way to give yourselves an easy ride, gents - packing a mid-engined, twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6, together with three electric motors (one for the rear wheels, two for the fronts) and a power output likely somewhere in the 500bhp region. It'll weigh in at around 1400kg, with those e-motors effectively providing a four-wheel drive torque-vectoring system.

We'll see the final thing in January. And about time too, Honda. Have a flick through the shady teaser pics above, and tell us: will it be a looker?
