Weiron Tan recently undertook the first real big step into the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Super Season 2018/2019 with a successful Prologue test at Circuit Paul Ricard, France.

Together with fellow Malaysian teammates, Jazeman Jaafar and Nabil Jeffri, Weiron got to grips testing the Jackie Chan DC Racing x JOTA Sport’s Oreca-Gibson 07 LMP2 race car. This will be the first all-Malaysian outfit to take part in the championship that includes two rounds of the blue ribbon Le Mans 24 Hours race. The Malaysian drivers will drive the #Fortunecat37 entry.

The 23-year old Weiron completed a total of 74 laps over two days, setting the fastest time among the three-man crew. What is even more encouraging is that Weiron, Jazeman, and Nabil’s lap times were evenly-matched; and Weiron was eighth-quickest among the 22 drivers in the LMP2 category. The fastest of them all, was just a second away through the 5.861km Paul Ricard circuit.

“What an experience!” said Weiron, the former Caterham F1 Academy member, who only steered his burgeoning career from single-seaters to sportscars a year-and-a-half ago. “It was a very positive test overall.

The ORECA 07 is just an amazing piece of kit – probably one of the best cars I have ever driven. It’s an upgraded version of the previous 05 model that we raced in the Asian Le Mans Series, with more power and downforce

“The ORECA 07 is just an amazing piece of kit – probably one of the best cars I have ever driven. It’s an upgraded version of the previous 05 model that we raced in the Asian Le Mans Series, with more power and downforce. I’m really looking forward to the first round at Spa next month and with our continuous hard work and dedication, I’m confident we will be ready for this challenge!”

Weiron was referring to the first round of the 2018/2019 WEC Super Season which starts at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on 5 May. From then on, it will be the season’s first visit to Le Mans on 16 and 17 June 2018.
