Donkervoort pumps up its GTO

Remember the rather barmy Donkervoort? Well, the Dutch Caterham-on-steroids is back, and this time it's even harder cored than before.

Meet the Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition. Quite a name, and with quite the connotations: Bilster Berg is a helter-skelter of a circuit in Germany, and it's a track Donkervoort holds the lap record at.

Inspired by the Caterham Seven but altogether more muscular, the regular D8 GTO uses Audi's 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo engine (from the RS3 and TT RS), which pumps a not inconsiderable 380bhp to the rear wheels, enabling a Nissan GT-R-baiting 2.8-second 0-62mph time.

The Bilster Berg doesn't notably alter those figures, but it does crank up the aggression. The suspension is retuned, there are new anti-roll bars, and the tyres have morphed into semi-slick Hankooks.

There's a stockier roll cage, while carbon seats help contribute to a subtle 10kg diet. A carbon fibre grille and a front-end restyle further up the GTO's butchness.

Other additions include more carbon fripperies, a dashboard data logger and a race-spec clutch, which ought to ensure you'll never pull away from traffic lights subtly ever again.

Just 14 will be made - with a requisite plaque to mark which one you've bagged - and needless to say, such specialness comes at a price. In its homeland, the Bilster Berg weighs in at 194,000 euros.

A bit of TG maths suggests you'll need at least £150,000 to make one yours. This or a 911 Turbo?
