Selling cars online was bound to happen in Malaysia, after all it is done overseas (well, Tesla, mainly). But now that Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is actually doing it, I am not quite sure if the buyers are ready.

In any case, there are 12 Volkswagen Beetles available exclusively online, thanks to a collaboration between VPCM and Lazada Malaysia. Limited to just these dozen units, it will be available in conjunction with Lazada’s Online Revolution campaign happening between 12 and 14 December 2017. Put one of the Beetles into your shopping cart and the total will read RM112,112. Before that, the interested buyer must first purchase a Welcome Kit priced at RM5,000. This will be the booking fee.

(Obviously, not many buyers has a credit card with a Rm100k+ limit, so once the RM5k Welcome Kit is paid, the rest of the sum will still go through the usual channels)

The Welcome Kit also consists of a limited edition Volkswagen keychain and Touch & Go card with RM100 pre-loaded into it. Once purchase is finalised, the customer will get a call from a VW representative to go though details such as the preferred dealership for the buyer.

There are two designs to choose from – the ‘Herbie 53’ which is in Pure White and White Silver, as well as the Tornado Red ‘Hot Bug’.

The car also comes with a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a 5.8-inch touchscreen with USB, Bluetooth and 8 speakers; and seat trim with ‘Pepita’ fabric. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.2-litre TSI engine that makes 105ps and 175Nm, which then goes to a 7-speed DSG box’.
