BMW Group Malaysia 1

BMW Group Malaysia enjoyed 2017 with a total of 12,680 units of BMW, MINI, and Motorrad delivered throughout the year. This is a 16 per cent growth compared to 2016 (which saw 10,906 deliveries), and the premium brand’s seventh consecutive all-time performance.

BMW cars sold the most, understandably, with 10,618 units in comparison to the 9,000 units in 2016. According to BMW Group Malaysia the majority of this is for the 3 Series with 3,564 deliveries (2,408 of this number are for a single model: 330e and 330e M Sport).

(PHEV) hybrids also made up the bulk of X5 sales with over 3,000 units for the X5 xDrive40e.

The BMW 740Le xDrive did well too with over 400 units delivered.

The new 5-Series, meanwhile, showed sales of over 1,600 units.

The MINI brand moved 1,010 units or a 12 per cent increase over 2016. The result is on top of a fair number of new launches, namely the new Countryman, John Cooper Works Clubman, and John Cooper Works Countryman.

As for BMW Motorrad, it delivered a total of 1,052 motorbikes (+5 per cent) following a year that saw introduction of the new S1000RR, R1200GS, K1600GT Bagger, and R nineT Urban GS.

This growth goes together with progress made by BMW Group Worldwide which recorded a total delivery of 2,463,526 vehicles, a similar seventh year of record sales. From that total, BMW delivered 2,088,283 vehicles (+4.2 per cent), MINI with 371,881 (+3.2 per cent), and 164,153 of deliveries for Motorrad which is a massive 13.2 per cent growth.

It was not just a year about record sales for BMW Group Malaysia though. 2017 was also the year when the Group introduced the Full Circle Programme by BMW Credit Malaysia, and the Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline Program for BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad vehicles, on top of its existing premium offerings such as the BMW 5 Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty and Free Service Program, the BMW Tyre Warranty Program, and the MINI 4 Year Unlimited Mileage and Free Service Warranty program.

On top of that, BMW Group Malaysia began operations of the RM130 million Regional Parts Distribution Centre at the Free Trade Zone of the Senai International Airport.

For 2018, the Group will begin to export the BMW 3 Series, BMW 5 Series, and BMW 7 Series to Vietnam and Philippines after the BMW assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah, increased its capacity to produce over 10,000 vehicles. The expansion was done in 2017 with an over RM10 million investment.
