BMW Group Malaysia’s push for electro mobility vehicles are showing positive signs as the BMW iPerformance line-up have shown its best-ever performance in the first half of 2017. Specifically, this represents the delivery of 2,300 units of the BMW 330e, X5 xDrive40e and the 740Le.

The BMW X5 xDrive40e Sports Activity Vehicle was the first to be introduced by BMW Group Malaysia late June 2016 and since then have sold over 3,200 units. This is 44 per cent of its total volume mix in Malaysia, the highest in the world compared to the world average of 3 per cent. In Nordic countries – where electric hybrid vehicles are probably the best accepted – the figure is at 14 per cent.

For sedans, more than 60 per cent of all BMW 3 Series sales in Malaysia is for the 330e. At the other spectrum of the brand’s spread of vehicles, the 740Le xDrive accounts for over 40 per cent of the 7 Series sales.

Meanwhile, BMW Group have given more importance on the infrastructure to support the use of electric driving by underlining their partnership with GreenTech Malaysia.

Mr. Han Sang Yun, Managing Director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia said, “To date, there are more than 200 ChargEV stations available nationwide and this will continue to grow to a target of 25,000 ChargEV stations by 2020. We are pleased to share that over 600 BMW Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle owners have also signed up for the BMW ChargeNow program on the ChargEV platform. This is another confidence on the progress of the take up of these new technologically advanced vehicles and Malaysian’s move in adopting electro-mobility will continue to be positive.”

Similarly, charging stations are also being installed at various other venues with the cooperation of the Group’s authorised dealerships. For instance, Seong Hoe Premium Motors in Melaka have recently fitted a BMW iWallbox at the Holiday Inn Melaka. Another project is also in the works at The Equatorial Melaka and that should be ready by August.

In East Malaysia, BMW Group Malaysia’s premium partner Regas Premium Auto Sarawak will also be installing two BMWi Wallbox solutions at CityONE Megamall in Kuching, the first public charging infrastructure in the state of Sarawak.
