"The development of the BMW M6 GT3 is progressing according to plan," BMW assures us. If that plan is 'scare children senseless and render small dogs mute', we'd say it was a success. Internet, meet the new M6 GT3.

From 2016, this M6 GT3 will become BMW's 'figurehead' racing car, and was subjected to a first test last Saturday at the company's factory in Dingolfing. Jörg Müller was the lucky so-and-so to have a first go, and, well, it's certainly a late Christmas present.

"It is a fantastic moment when you walk into the garage and see this stunningly beautiful car," Müller notes. Git. "The engine really impressed me. It is powerful and has good torque, which is important for a car like this."

Ah yes, the engine. It's a variation of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 already doing bombastic service in the M5 and M6, here modified (read: restricted) to just over 500bhp, matched up to a six-speed sequential racing transmission and rear wheel drive.

Then there's the 'powerful motorsport electronics', a kerb weight of less than 1300kg, racing suspension and assorted paraphernalia (roll cage etc). And of course, the monster aero, including that massive rear wing. A better rear wing than the new Lexus RC-F GT3? Only you can decide that.

You can actually buy one, too, though BMW mentions no price. Expect many Euros to be involved. Roll on 2016.
