Just moments ago, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) officially launched the Volkswagen Tiguan SUV. You’ve read our first impression report earlier (click here if you want to go through it again) but now, we know the price.

The Tiguan 1.4 TSI Comfortline is priced at RM148,990 while the Highline goes for RM168,990. Early-bird buyers get an additional RM7,000 discount, plus the optional App connect upgrade for RM699.

[App Connect is optional only for the Highline variant which consists of three features to allow smart phone apps onto the infotainment system. It is supported by Android Auto, Apple Carplay and Mirrorlink. It’s (normal) retail price is RM1,099]

VW Tiguan launch 1

The locally-assembled Tiguan comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged TSI engine that’s good for 150ps and 250Nm of torque (the latter delivered between 1,500 to 3,500rpm). This goes to a six-speed (wet) DSG gearbox. Acceleration from standstill to 100kph goes by in 8.9 seconds. The low-ish kerb weight of 1,485kg helps a fair bit, we bet.

Of course, the new Tiguan is also only available with front-wheel drive.

Fuel consumption is a claimed 6.7L/100km. As a result of this, the SUV has been certified with the Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status.

Safety
Naturally, there are differences between the two variants. Good thing is, this does not include the safety features. Standard in both cars are airbags (curtain, dual front, dual front side), electronic stability control, hill-hold control, multi-collision brake system and active bonnet protection system.

Exterior
Longer, wider and lower in height compared to its predecessor, the all-new Tiguan comes fitted with 18-inch “Kingston” alloy wheels, and adaptive LED headlights and rear LED tail lamps (halogen units for Comfortline). This feature enhances the drivers’ visibility in all-weather conditions. For convenience, the Tiguan also comes with electric tailgate (Highline variant).

Active Info Display

Interior
Standard features in the cabin includes cooled glovebox, folding table attached to the back of the front seats, multi-function steering wheel, paddle shifters and rear air-cond vents. The top-spec Highline variant comes with a much better equipment list, naturally, which includes 3-zone air-conditioning system, cruise control, keyless access, leather seats and 8 inch touchscreen display with navigation.

Full Dashboard

The new Volkswagen Tiguan comes with VPCM’s 5-year manufacturer’s warranty and 5-year roadside assistance.
