For a few thousand Euros extra, you’ll also get the Manthey Racing package

The racing world has gone GT4 crazy but after one long look at the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport which was given its Asian launch at the Sepang circuit just a few hours ago, all the excitement makes sense. It’s the bridge between the hardcore yet road legal 911 GT3 RS and the track only Carrera Cup car used in their one-make PCC series; which means that it is fast as hell yet rather cheap.

By cheap, i mean in relative to the Cup cars which costs, we’re told, over 400,000 Euros. The Cayman GT4 Clubsport on the other hand is 127,900 Euros. That includes air-conditioning, Recaro race seats and a 100 litre fuel tank. You’d need those three to meet SRO GT4 rules.

Interested? But we’re not done yet. The car you see here has the MR designation, which tells of the extra work put in by Manthey Racing, Porsche’s go-to guys when it comes to the very sharp end of racing.

I’ve never been a big fan of that grey/yellow livery but the Manthey-spec car comes with:

Refuelling system, sway bar front axle, 2-way adjustable race suspension kit, adjustable brake balance  bar, drive shaft spacer, carbon-fibre doors, carbon fibre bonnet, polycarbonate windscreen, rear wing,  rear wing bracket, steering wheel control unit, CAN Gateaway, steering wheel hub extension.

That’s quite a list of upgrades to add to the P1300 GT Recaro seats, FT3 100L safety fuel cell with safety cut-off, fire suppression system, window net, and air jack system. All of which will bump the price a fair bit – 159,990 Euros. But basement price compared to the Cup cars.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR is as race car as it gets for Porsche’s Customer Racing programme yet I can’t help but notice about the lack of centrelock wheel nuts, which comes standard even in the 911 GT3 RS. The Manthey Racing spokesman shared with me that in the spirit of GT4 class, where pricing is kept as low as possible, they’ve chosen to not include it. In any case, MR does have an optional BBS wheel option although its only benefit is being marginally lighter. We are also told that they are actually thinking of offering centrelocking wheel nuts as an option in the future.

The Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR is equipped with a 3.8-litre flat-six engine that produces 385bhp and 420Nm of torque to the rear wheels. Gearbox of choice is a six-speed PDK dual clutch. The Clubsport MR weighs in at 1290kg.
