Hollywood star Tom Hanks puts his 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser up for auction

Well, it turns out that Tom Hanks has fantastic taste in cars, because of course he does. What a man.

We say that because he’s recently announced that a few of his automotive pieces will go up for auction at the Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction in August, and among them is this glorious hardtop FJ40 Land Cruiser.

The Hollywood legend actually commissioned this FJ40 to be rebuilt for both wilderness and highway use. Thus, it now features a GM-sourced 4.3-litre V6 that makes a whole 180bhp and is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. It has also passed all of California’s strict smog tests and apparently has “back country miles” on the clock. Clearly Hanks was a fan.

There’s still four-wheel drive (of course), but also power steering, beefed up Old Man Emu shocks and chrome wheels. The interior features an all-important Tom Hanks signature, as well as electrically-adjustable Porsche front seats, a cassette player with extra speakers  and added air conditioning.

Bonhams reckons it’ll go for between £54,000 and £91,000 (RM320k-RM535k) when it crosses the block. Bargain really. Plus, when you buy it you’ll be able to make all of the “look at me – I’m the captain now” jokes you could ever dream of…
