UMW Toyota Motor Sdn. Bhd. will be the first car company in Malaysia to support Esports with its involvement in the Toyota Velocity Esports Championship. Dubbed the biggest national racing event in the country, it will be held at the Sunway Pyramid Blue Atrium from 21 to 23 September.

Participation is free-of-charge, and entries are still open until the limited slot for 400 persons are all filled. All participants need to be a Malaysian citizen or residency status.

The championship will be on the Gran Turismo Sport game, racing on Japan’s Suzuka circuit. Luckily you won’t be forced to race something boring – instead it is the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept. Each player will have 15 minutes of setting up (chair adjustment, in-game controls & car setup), followed by 30 minutes (maximum) to set their fastest time. Marshalls will select the fastest time to be included in the system. Top 20 fastest times across the two days (21-22 September) will advance to the semi-finals on Sunday for the head-to-head race.

Winners have a total of RM60,000 to collect from: but top prize is RM20,000, with RM10,000 and RM5,000 for second and third place respectively. There will also be an exciting exhibition race participated by celebrities from Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Festival.

“At Toyota, we always have our youth in mind. The Esports is on a steep upward curve and has the potential to become one of the top five sports in the world. This rapidly-rising industry is a new and exciting experience especially for the younger generation and with that being said, we at Toyota would like to be at the forefront of this Championship Series,” said Mr. Ravindran K., President of UMWT.
