This is a new-old, one-off twin-turbo Ford GT40

This is a new, old, continuation, one-off Ford GT40 with lots of modifications and a tweaked engine from the new Ford GT racer. Got your head wrapped around that? Good, because what it really is, is tuner Superformance’s idea of a future GT40.

It has come up with this custom build tribute to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford’s now-famous 1968 Le Mans win.

The “Future GT Forty” created by Superformance sits on a Mk1 GT40 rolling chassis and gets the same 3.5-litre Ford EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine from the current GT, here prepped to “competition” standard and treated to a handmade Magnaflow exhaust. The turbos come courtesy of Honeywell-Garrett. No power output is specified but we suspect it’ll be ‘much’.

Impressively, over two thirds of the steel monocoque chassis’ components are interchangeable with the original parts of a GT40. There’s also specially created air suspension, sound insulation, a custom hand-stitched interior, and the current Ford GT’s racing livery, with racing decals for that “I know what I’m doing” feel. Plus custom pin drive wheels with Michelin tyres. SAFIR GT40, the owners of the original GT40 trademarks, has even given it a seal of approval. It’s the real deal – even if it is a one-off hobbiest production.

We’ll bring you more info as we get it…
