The 2020 Jaguar XE is a sub-RM400k alternative to a BMW 3 Series

By daryl, 26 August 2020

Jaguar's answer to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class never really took off in numbers on Malaysian roads. But that's not stopping Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) from bringing in the facelifted Jaguar XE into the country, with the only model on sale being a handsomely kitted out R-Dynamic variant no less.

The XE now flaunts a new set of LED cat eyes, redesigned bumpers and even a new steering wheel adopted from the all-electric I-Pace in the mix of its updates. The interior has been similarly dressed up with a dollop of digital gadgetry expected of a premium car in 2020; 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 'Touch Pro Duo infotainment' with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity and wireless charger included.

What we're more interested in is the heart of the Jag, which is JLR's 'Ingenium P300' mill in the case of the new XE. This petrol engine delivers 300PS and 400Nm to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The latter features a pendulum damper in the torque converter for reduced vibrations, and can be manually engaged using a pair of satin chrome paddle shifters on the rack - nice touch, Jaguar.

The price of these nice touches, and a package that looks competitive enough to tease premium sedan shoppers who have gotten bored of Bimmers and Mercs, isn't exactly cheap. The 2020 Jaguar XE R-Dynamic will set you back RM395,831, inclusive of the 50 percent tax exemption it qualifies for as a CBU.
