Big news from China! Mercedes-Benz will be showcasing a range of furniture items at the upcoming Auto China show in Beijing!

That, plus the new A-Class and C-Class saloon. Oh, and something called a Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept. Which just happens to be a concept version of Maybach’s potential SUV.

But back to the furniture. What’s that? You want to know about the Maybach? Fine. Unfortunately all we have is this teaser sketch of the interior, a peek inside Maybach’s vision of combining a posh saloon and an SUV, into one no-doubt ruinously expensive mix.

You can take a peek for yourself at the futuristic dash above. What Merc say about the exclusive new SUV is that it’ll reflect Maybach’s design language, and of course continue the marque’s current renaissance.

Chances are it’ll sit on a GLS base; that car’s current engine range spans diesel sixes and a big V8, but it’s quite old now, so this may be based on the next-gen GLS. We’re hoping for some potent iteration of that venerable 4.0-litre biturbo V8 used in the AMG GT and Aston’s Vantage. V12? Fingers crossed, but don’t bank on it.

Maybach’s rolled out some astonishing concepts of late, so this thing should be something quite special indeed. And be honest, a Maybach SUV will just be amazing, wouldn’t it? Maybach has already done entirely unnecessary, entirely wonderful things with the old G-Wagen in the shape of the Merc-Maybach G650 Landaulet.

We’ll see the full concept SUV at the Auto China show later in April. The Super SUV market is heating up nicely, what with Bentley, Rolls, Lambo, Ferrari…
